Spring break was no time to rest for the Thompson High baseball teams

All three Thompson High baseball teams had a successful spring break on the field. The freshman team won the Metro Tournament title and the varsity and junior varsity finished second in their respective tournaments.

The varsity team won their first five games in a talent filled Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores. The Warriors outscored the five opponents, 35-12, to advance to the championship game. Thompson finished second after dropping a 7-1 decision to Brighton (Tenn.) High in the championship game.

The tournament was even more special because Thompson High head coach Pat Hamrick reached an impressive milestone during tournament play. He notched his 500th career win after his team beat tournament host Gulf Shores, 13-5, in the semifinals.

Now, the Warriors take plenty of momentum into Class 7A Area ? play. The Warriors begin area play on Tuesday by playing host to defending state champion Hoover. The Bucs will host the Warriors on Thursday.

The freshman team won four games to capture the Metro Tournament. They began with wins over Spain Park (12-2) and Cullman (3-2). Thompson and Cullman met again in the semifinals and the Warriors needed a 7th-inning rally to claim a 7-6 victory. Thompson then ran away with a 13-3 win over Vestavia Hills in the championship game.
