Thompson High continues chase for AHSAA Class 7A wrestling title

The Thompson High wrestling team is poised to begin competition in the AHSAA State Wrestling Championships at the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville. Competition has already began in the lower classes and the 7A competition will begin this afternoon. The meet continues on Friday and champions will be crowned on Saturday.
The Warriors are seeking their first state championship since winning the title from 2011 to 2015. Last week, the Warriors captured the AHSAA Class 7A South Super Sectional at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery. The Warriors also qualified 11 wrestlers
for the state championships. Vestavia Hills won the Class 7A North Super Sectional.
Thompson won the South team competition with 196.5 points, outdistancing runner-up Central-Phenix City by 30 points. Thompson wrestlers qualifying for the state championships are Dylan Leseuer (First, 106 pounds), Emmanuel Oliver (First, 113 pounds), Judah Campbell (Fourth, 120 pounds), Chandler Atkins (First, 126 pounds), Gabe Hixenbaugh (First, 132 pounds), Nathan Roberts (Fourth, 138 pounds), Derek Hussey (Third, 152 pounds), William Browder (Third, 170 pounds), Alex Ward (First, 182 pounds), Isaac McAdams (Second, 195 pounds) and Seth Whitlock (Third, 285 pounds).
