Thompson's Melanie Brannon and Sidney Adams sign college scholarships

Wednesday was not just a day for celebrating the Thompson High football signees. National Signing Day was also a chance to celebrate Thompson High athletes Melanie Brannon and Sidney Adams signing college scholarships.

Brannon signed a scholarship to play soccer at the University of Alabama at Huntsville and Adams will go to Bevill State Community College to play softball. Both were honored on Wednesday in the Thompson auditorium.

“It’s a really good feeling because this hard work has finally paid off,” Brannon said. “I’m really excited, it’s just a relief.”

Brannon said she considered Rice, Auburn University Montgomery and Columbus State. She chose UAH because “it has a really good engineering program and (it) offered me a lot of (scholarship) money.”

Adams said her recruitment to Bevill State began in travel ball. She grew to love the school during her recruitment.

“It’s kind of like Thompson, everybody knows everybody,” Adams said. “It’s kind of like a small town and stuff like that. I like that feeling of home.”

Adams, who plays outfield for the Warriors, originally committed to Bevill State early in the school year. However, it wasn’t something she had seen coming for a long time.

“I grew up playing softball but I never thought I’d be able to play in college,” Adams said. “When I was, it was just like a shock to me.”

Now that she’s signed, Adams can put her full attention toward her final high school season.

“It’s like a relief, there is so much pressure on you,” she said.
