The Thompson Warriors took a step toward claiming a Class 7A State Dual Championship on Tuesday night. One more step to go.

The Warriors traveled to Central Phenix City and emerged with a 41-25 semifinal victory over the host Red Devils. In the other semifinal, Bob Jones knocked off defending champion Vestavia Hills, 37-26.

Thompson and Bob Jones will decide the champion on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The Warriors won the first five matches at Central with Dylan Lesueur (106 pounds), Harris Mitchell (113 pounds) and Gabe Hixenbaugh (132 pounds) pinning their opponents in the first period. During that stretch, which ended with a 29-0 lead, the Warriors got a technical fall win from Judah Campbell (120 pounds) and decision victories by Chandler Akins (126 pounds) and Nathan Roberts (138 pounds).

Other Thompson victories came from 152-pounder Ashunti Perry (decision), 195-pounder Isaac McAdams (fall) and 285-pounder Seth Whitlock (Tiebreaker-1).
