Thompson Warriors Varsity drops a close one against Austin
Even though Thompson Warriors Varsity and Austin both had their opportunities, it was Austin that eventually prevailed 14-13 on Saturday. The game was tied at 12 with Austin batting in the bottom of the sixth when there was an error, scoring one run.
Thompson Warriors Varsity collected 13 hits and Austin had 13 in the high-scoring affair
Thompson Warriors Varsity took an early lead in the first inning. Breydon Edmondson tripled on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring one run.
After Thompson Warriors Varsity scored three runs in the top of the fourth, Austin answered with three of their own. Thompson Warriors Varsity scored when Braden Ashmead singled off of Jacob Blanding, driving in one run and Colby McClain singled off of Blanding, driving in two runs. Austin then answered when Thomas Rossi singled off of Noah Machan, driving in three runs.
Austin knotted the game up at 12 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Austin scored one run when Kulyn Hubbard doubled with two outs in the fifth inning.
Austin scored four runs in the fifth inning. Austin's big inning was driven by a error, a single by Gracen Throenberry, and a double by Hubbard.
Uriel Chavez earned the win for Austin. He pitched two innings, allowing four runs, four hits, striking out one, and walking zero. Three relievers helped Austin close out the victory. Blanding threw two innings. Rossi recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Austin. Will Morris took the loss for Thompson Warriors Varsity. He went one inning, surrendering two runs, one hit, striking out one, and walking one.
JD Kytle started the game for Thompson Warriors Varsity. He tossed three innings, giving up five runs, seven hits, and striking out three.
Caleb Ragland, Chris Lewis, McClain, and Ashmead each collected multiple hits for Thompson Warriors Varsity. Ashmead and Lewis each drove in three runs to lead Thompson Warriors Varsity.
Paxton Montgomery, Rossi, Jake Smallwood, and Colt Dozier each collected multiple hits for Austin.
