Cross country state championships results

MOULTON – The AHSAA Cross Country State Championships took place for all classes across Alabama on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Oakville Indian Mounds Park. After everything was said and done, the only county team to take home a state championship was the Westminster girls’ cross country team in the 1A/2A classification, but that doesn’t mean other schools didn’t have success.
We will break down each classifications results below.
7A
The only girls team from the 7A class to make the championship meet was Spain Park. The Lady Jags finished the 5K race in seventh place after gathering a total of 206 points. Senior Mary Katherine Tedder finished the race in 27th out of 139 runners with a time of 19:36.17.
The Oak Mountain boys’ cross country team finished fifth in 7A after totaling 129 points in the race. The Eagles were led by senior Caleb Van Geffen who was the county’s top 7A boy’s finisher placing sixth with a time of 16:00.64, 21 seconds behind overall winner Tommy McDonough of Hoover. Cole Stidfole also had a strong performance as he finished with a time of 16:11.58, which was good enough for 12th position.
Individually Tedder highlighted the girls race, while Van Geffen and Stidfole paced the guys. Thompson sophomore Brandon DeMarcus Lee also had a strong performance as the lone representor for the Warriors after he place 13th overall with a time of 16:12.67.
