Warriors and Rebels split double header

Nationally-ranked Vestavia Hills on Tuesday evening split a doubleheader series withThompson, winning the first game, 4-3 in 12 innings, and dropping the second, 5-0.

At Sammy Dunn Field, Luke Whitaker played hero at the plate in the first game. His walk-off sacrifice fly capped a two-run 12thinning for the Rebels. It started with Sonny Potter’s RBI-single.

Thompson, which led 2-0 in the third, scored one run at the top of the 12th to take a 3-2 lead.

Whitaker went 1-for-5 with a double in the fourth inning. Teammate Parker Hersheywent 3-for-4 and scored three runs. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the fourth and 12th.

Nate Dennis earned the win for Vestavia Hills. He allowed one run over five innings, striking out five and walking two. He gave up five hits.

In the second game, J.C. Goolsby pitched seven shutout innings, striking out two for Thompson. Goolsby gave up six hits. Meanwhile, Jonathan Crawford andJackson Connor drove in two runs apiece for the Warriors. Braden Ashmead also drove in one run.
